We all slept exceptionally well and woke at 6:30am. There was no hurry to go anywhere this morning, so we had a lazy breakfast, long hot showers in the shower block and did a load of washing. We rolled out at just before 10am, heading to the St George Dinosaur Discovery Centre.
There were tons of dinosaurs in Utah way back when, and this place had some dinosaur tracks that had been fossilized - cool stuff. It took a while for Julian to warm to the place as he had expected something much bigger. He got his spark back when he saw a Sperm Whale tooth compared to a T-rex tooth :)
We got back on the road at 11:30 and headed north. We decided to take the road that went by Zion National Park but turned around when we found out that even driving through the park cost $30. We took the scenic route around the back for nothing other than a bit of rain.
We had lunch in a little town, Kanab, which we can't decide how to pronounce! Then after a wrestle to get Rohan into his car seat, we drove the 80mile to Lake Powell/ Page, Arizona. The campground is just out of town in the national park (Wahweap Campground) and it overlooked the lake. We had a walk around before heading into town to buy some meat for dinner.
The skies lit up again and there was an excellent thunderstorm whilst we ate dinner (Spaghetti Bolognese). There was the usual excitement of the shower and both boys were asleep by 8pm. As a bonus, the internet actually works here so I may be able to get some photos onto this blog!
The scenery in Utah is awesome - we just loved the flat topped mountains and the rock striations. The soil here is a rich red and after the rain, it looked like a chocolate river flowing next to the road.
