Day 5 - New York Helicopter and Downtown

Julian slept, we had interupted sleep but a lot more than we have had since we arrived.  The alarm worked and we were on the train downtown at 9am.  First stop was Wall St and the Stock Exchange.
A lot of the streets were cordoned off and we saw a movie being filmed - the guy we spoke to said that it was a Ben Stiller movie like we were meant to be impressed.  Don't know if the broken down cop car was real or not.
Julian was thoroughly impressed with the big flag over the Stock Exchange building.
A guy called George Washington.

Then we walked downtown to Pier 6, Manhattan Downtown Heliport for Steve's birthday flight.
This was when we were waiting in line for the flight - Julian kept pointing out the helicopters as they landed.

We were arranged according to weight in the aircraft, so I got front and centre :)  Julian was thrilled with his seat too ;)
 A gift from the French.
Replacement World Trade Centre 1 - Freedom tower under construction (tallest in shot).
Downtown including the heliport on the left.
Steve and sleeping Julian - hilarious!
Kind of happy family on the heliport (Julian was kindly given earmuffs as it was damn loud!).
The flight was absolutely AWESOME, we had a blast.  The city was hazy but it didn't matter as we saw so much of the city including Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.  We also saw the Cloisters Ilana - looked very pretty from above.

  1. Hello there! Glad you enjoyed the birthday flight, and the added birthday bonus of a sleeping boy. Quite an expensive way to get him to sleep, but clearly effective.

We're enjoying reading the blog and imagining the Mays in USA. Keep having a great time.
